Most people think switching carriers means risking worse coverage. That’s not true.

If you’re on Verizon, you can keep the exact same network—and dramatically lower your bill—by switching to US Mobile. This is one of the simplest ways to save $20–$50 per month without changing your day-to-day service.

You don’t actually need to stay with Verizon to use Verizon’s network. US Mobile is what’s called an MVNO (Mobile Virtual Network Operator). They don’t own towers—they lease access to Verizon’s network and resell it at a lower price. In many cases, your phone is using the same towers, just at a better price.

Here’s where things get interesting.

Verizon plans typically start around $45 per month and can go up to $70–$90 for premium unlimited plans, often with taxes and fees added on top. US Mobile, on the other hand, offers a $8 per month plan with 2GB of data and an unlimited plan for around $25 per month, often with fewer extra fees.

That’s a potential savings of 50–70% every month.

And the surprising part? You’re not giving up as much as you might think. With US Mobile on Verizon’s network, you still get the same coverage footprint, similar signal strength in most areas, access to 5G (depending on your device and plan), and you can keep your phone number.

Of course, there are a few tradeoffs to be aware of.

Verizon customers may get higher priority during times of network congestion, which means US Mobile users could experience slower speeds in very busy areas. Verizon also tends to include extras like streaming perks and bundled services, while US Mobile focuses on keeping costs low instead of adding bonuses. And if you prefer walking into a store for help, Verizon offers in-person support, while US Mobile is primarily online.

For many people, those tradeoffs are minimal compared to the savings.

This switch makes the most sense if you want to cut your bill immediately, already get strong Verizon coverage, don’t rely on bundled perks, and spend a lot of time on Wi-Fi. On the other hand, if you live in a highly congested area, need the fastest possible data at all times, or prefer in-store support, sticking with Verizon may still be the better option.

Let’s put the savings into perspective. If you’re paying $65 per month for a Verizon unlimited plan and switch to a $25 per month US Mobile plan, that’s $40 in savings every month—or $480 per year. For most people, that’s a significant amount of money for nearly the same everyday experience.

Switching is also easier than most people expect. All you need to do is make sure your phone is unlocked, get your account number and transfer PIN from Verizon, sign up with US Mobile, and port your number. The process usually only takes a few minutes.

At The Telecom Doctor, we typically recommend MVNOs because they cost less, come with fewer billing surprises, and deliver nearly identical service for most users. If you already like your Verizon coverage, switching to US Mobile is one of the easiest ways to lower your bill without sacrificing performance.
